ID represents multiple award-winning documentary “Salam Rugby” for international distribution
Montreal-based ID Communications takes on world distribution rights to documentary exploring the untold story of women’s rugby in Iran
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Montreal, Canada – ID Communications Inc. announces a week before the year’s first media seller’s market (NATPE in Miami), the acquisition of worldwide distribution for New Zeland produced documentary “Salam Rugby” directed and produced by Faramazh Beheshti.
With the continued tensions between Iran and other western countries, this film provides a glimpse into the role of women and sport, in a society dominated by Sharia law.
“Salam Rugby follows the 2-year journey of filmmaker Faramazh Beheshti in Iran as Rugby was being explored as an “experiment” for women. The film takes us on a 7000 km (4500 mile) voyage inside the lives of women who play on, despite the restrictions imposed on them by the government, and a fresh perspective on what it is to live under Sharia law. ” said ID Communications president, Dan Shannon.
The film has garnered numerous awards, including Winner of Human Rights Award, Sports/Movies Festival of Milan, Best ‘Non-European Documentary Film’ at ECU Festival in Paris April 2011, Best Feature Documentary In Cambofest- Cambodia 2011, and has been Selected in over a dozen other documentary festivals.
“At the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Iranian flag was carried by Homa Hoseini, an Iranian rower. Despite the 2 minute facade on the screen, nothing could be further from the truth. Women’s participation in sport has been hugely underrepresented in Iran since the election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president.” said filmmaker Faramazh Beheshti.
The film will be presented for international sales at NATPE in Miami Beach starting January 23. It will also be available shortly after on 411films.com, for direct to consumer video on demand and DVD.
